our mission

Something magical happens when you stand in front of the white canvas and start to paint. You don’t need any drawing or painting skills to be able to create a piece of beautiful art and to manifest happiness.

Merriment Atelier’s mission is to make people fall in love with painting and to turn this activity into part of their lifestyle. Like the human body needs exercises and movement to be healthy and feel good, the soul and mind need moments of peace and emotional relaxation.

Hi there, I am Mariella Wilson,

The founder and CEO of Merriment Atelier, destination wedding & event planner, or in short: creator of happy memories.

I have been planning bespoke weddings and events for decades. I love what I do and I love to make people happy.

My Merriment Atelier journey started a few months after I got redundant because of the pandemic from the job I loved.

My lay off coincided with my husband getting a job overseas, so I faced the first lockdown jobless and alone at home. I will never forget this time. The feeling of sadness and loneliness was killing me.

Like many other people, I was spending hours watching Netflix. One of my favourite shows is Shark Tank, and this was what I was watching all the time. I am an entrepreneur myself, so I enjoyed watching other people’s business ideas and success stories.

In one of the episodes, a team pitched a paint & sip business. This immediately grabbed my attention because I had never heard of this kind of event before. My excitement became bigger when Kevin O’Leary, known as Mr Wonderful, almost jumped from his chair and said: “I am investing in your business”. For those who haven’t watched this show, he is a very selective investor and brutally honest with people presenting nonsense ideas. That’s why I like him.

I absolutely fell in love with the idea of events where you can paint and sip a glass of wine and have a great time. I shared the idea with my sister, Nicolette. She is incredibly talented with painting and crafts, so I thought she would be the best person to help me in this journey. She warmly hugs the idea and voilà: “Merriment Atelier” was born.

Chiara De Stefano 🇮🇹

My name is Chiara I am proudly from Italy! I moved to London 4 years ago. I can’t live without music, my art and of course my beautiful Cat ! Funny things about me? - you can find me dancing in the most inappropriate places. If you see me around when I am supposed to be somewhere else, you might be looking at my twin sister! I have been painting since I was born ! My Dad is an art teacher so I always had my tiny hands full of paint since I was 2 years old ! I love nature , so my favourites objects to paint are mostly related to that! Landscapes, animals, fruits or flowers! I like my paints to look as realistic as possible, by adding the right lights and shadows you paint will definitely look more realistic! Join me at our next paint & sip workshop and I will show you how to do I it!

Millie Oulton 🇬🇧

Hi my name is Millie, I'm originally from Surrey and have just graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a Fine Art degree where I specialised in painting. My favourite things to paint are portraits and plants!
I have used a wide variety of techniques and styles of painting in order to find my personal painting style which uses layering of vibrant colours resulting in a bold post pop-art style. Join me at a paint and sip workshop and I will teach you how to do it!

Nadia Jackson 🇬🇧

My name is Nadia Jackson and I grew up on a farm in Herefordshire. I moved to London 3 years ago to attend drama school, where I have been training to be an actor. I have always loved all things creative - theatre, music and art.
I have been painting ever since I was little - I remember painting with my grandma. I was a toddler and loving it (and making a right old mess!). I love the freedom that painting gives you, to create something that has never before existed! When I moved to London, I set up a small business selling commissioned paintings, which has evolved into mainly being pet portraits.
My favourite style to paint is very naturalistic, so I work very closely with photos to get the likeness just right. But I also like to sometimes throw all of the technique out of the window, splash some colours onto a canvas, and just see what comes out of it! Because at the end of the day, the experience and joy of painting is more important than the finished product.
For painting very naturalistically, an effective trick I use in order it get my colours mixed perfectly is to paint onto the photo I’m copying! That way you can tell whether you’ve got the exact colour, and can keep mixing the paints until it blends seamlessly. Join me at our next paint & sip workshop and I will show you how to do it.

Hoyi Chan 🇭🇰

Hello! My name is Hoyi. I was raised in Hong Kong. I started my career as an illustrator and graphic designer after graduated college in 2016. I moved to London 1 year ago and now I'm currently studying for my postgraduate degree at the University of the Arts London. Surrealism is my favourite art style, I love the way artists present their amazing ideas and creative thoughts in their artworks. And so, my painting style was also affected by surrealist artists. For me, the theme is most important, the emotion you give to the artwork is the main point. I believe painting is a conversation for painters to talk with themselves, a process to deal with their inner self about mental health. Join me at the paint and sip workshop and enjoy quality time together.

Merriment Atelier is an event company that organizes stylish social creative, paint & sip events.

We plan our workshops with our guests in mind.

Our experiences are not only a fantastic way of having a great time, enjoying some excellent wine, and painting a wonderful piece of art; but also an opportunity to de-stress, relax and increase positive emotions by spending some quality time with friends and family.
